Cynthia Ann Parkinson Honored for Excellence in Medical Transcription
Cynthia Ann Parkinson Made Changes to Save her Hospital over $200,000

CLINTON, MD, January 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Cynthia Ann Parkinson, Medical Transcription Manager for Southern Maryland Hospital Center Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in medical transcription.

A 30-year-old veteran of the healthcare field, Ms. Parkinson devoted all but three years of her career to Southern Maryland Hospital Center. She currently serves as medical transcription manager and is responsible primarily for overseeing the centralized transcription department. In the course of her long career with the hospital, Ms. Parkinson managed in 2009 to restructure the transcription section, upgrade the dictation/transcription system, and renegotiate with vendors, thereby, saving over $200,000. She attributes her success to her dedication and ability to implement new ways of doing things, and to the work ethic that her parents instilled in her.

Ms. Parkinson has been the beta site for speech recognition for Arrendale Associates and currently has five radiologists utilizing it. Due to the success of the radiology speech recognition, Ms. Parkinson will be introducing it to specialized areas such as critical care and infectious disease. Ms. Parkinson's goal is to introduce speech recognition to other areas of the hospital as well over the next coming year.

Mrs. Parkinson completed training in medical transcription at Charles County Community College (now the College of Southern Maryland). She was honored by the hospital with a Professional Award in 2006. Away from work, she enjoys the company of her huge family: hiking in the mountains with her sisters, organizing family gatherings, and spending time with her daughter, twin sons and granddaughter.
