Laurie J. DeRuosi received the Sister Madeline San Souci Nursing Award for the highest nursing GPA
NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI, December 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laurie J. DeRuosi, Registered Nurse at Lifespan's Rhode Island Hospital, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in perianesthesia nursing in a Level 1 trauma center.
Ms. DeRuosi is one of only 400 nurses in the country who are dual certified as a CPAN and CAPA. She has been a PACU preceptor since 1993. Currently, as a certified perianesthesia nurse, she provides high quality, comprehensive nursing care to a variety of surgical patients within ambulatory, pediatric and critical care areas. Her critical care background and extensive experience within the specialty of perianesthesia nursing enables her to function proficiently in a wide variety of perianesthesia settings.
Earlier this year, Ms. DeRuosi received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Summa Cum Laude, with a 3.94 GPA, from Salve Regina University. She then enrolled at the University of Rhode Island to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing. In 1986, Ms. DeRuosi received the Bishop McVinney Memorial Scholarship for outstanding achievement in nursing theory, and the Kane Scholarship for outstanding scholastic achievement.
Ms. DeRuosi is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. She maintains affiliation with the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau International, the Rhode Island Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and the International Association of Nursing.
Ms. DeRuosi served in the U.S. Army National Guard for nine years and was honorably discharged as a second lieutenant. In honor of her service to her country, she received the Civilian Performance Award in Nursing from the U.S. Army in 1991. In 1985, she received the Command Sergeant Major's Award for Excellence in Leadership, and was a distinguished graduate of the Rhode Island Army National Guard's basic noncommissioned officers class #32, and the officer basic training course at Fort Sam Houston, Texas in 1988. She was also awarded the Army Achievement Medal, and was recognized as the first female soldier of the year by the RI Army National Guard in 1983. Her professional recognitions include the Faculty Certificate of Merit in psychiatric nursing (1986) and Professional Nurse II/Rhode Island Hospital Clinical Ladder (1995).
Outside of work, Ms. DeRuosi serves as Lay Eucharistic Minister and confirmation teacher at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wickford, R.I. Looking ahead, she hopes to obtain a position as a family nurse practitioner and teach at the university level.
