Specializing in internal medicine, Dr. Harigovind has 17 years of overall professional experience. She earned an MD from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2003. Upon completion of her residency, she was presented with the E. Thomas Marshburn, Jr., MD Award from the Department of Internal Medicine at Coastal AHEC, an honor that is bestowed to a third-year resident who exemplifies outstanding qualities in internal medicine.

A renowned physican in India, Dr. Harigovind's mother played an influential role in her career choice. She was touched by her mother's drive to help others and aspired to follow a similar path. Dr. Harigovind notes that she has a genuine passion for attending to the medical needs of her patients, and believes that her drive has facilitated her continued success. In the coming years, she intends to pursue work in international social service and volunteer with her husband, who works in the field of medical imaging.
