Kirby Montgomery Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Laboratory Inspection Services
Kirby Montgomery brings 29 years of experience in microbiology to the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation

TANEYTOWN, MD, April 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Kirby Montgomery, Microbiologist for COLA, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in laboratory inspection services.

Kirby Montgomery brings 29 years of professional experience to the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA). Best noted for his expertise in microbiology, he is charged primarily with visiting hospitals and doctors' offices to perform quality checks on their laboratories, technicians and techniques. He also educates staff on laboratory science and ensures the proper maintenance and operation of laboratories across the country.

Prior to joining COLA, Mr. Montgomery worked as assistant supervisor of immunochemistry at Union Memorial Hospital and Central Laboratories-Association of Maryland Pathologists, as medical technologist in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Laboratory Medicine of Johns Hopkins Hospital, as microbiology supervisor at Barre-National, Inc., and as medical technologist in the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease of the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center. He also lent his talents to Provident Hospital and Southern Chester County Medical Center. Mr. Montgomery attributes his success to determination.

Mr. Montgomery pursued graduate coursework at the University of Maryland Dental School and passed his board examinations with a specialty in microbiology. Additionally, he obtained an associate in science and a bachelor of arts, both from SUNY Albany. He completed the COLA Laboratory Director Course online and is qualified to direct a moderate complexity laboratory under CLIA. Through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, he became a medical technologist and a certified technologist in microbiology, hematology and immunology. He is also a certified clinical laboratory scientist in microbiology through the National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel and a registered microbiologist through the National Registry of the American Academy of Microbiology of the American Society for Microbiology.

Organizations with which Mr. Montgomery is affiliated include the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Academy of Microbiology, and the American Society for Microbiology. In five years, he plans to consult directly with laboratories and hospitals on laboratory inspections.
