Patricia A. Dunlap Farley Recognized for Lifelong Professional Dedication to the Field of Nursing
Patricia A. Dunlap Farley, BSN, MS, honored by Cambridge Who's Who
VANCOUVER, WA, April 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Patricia A. Dunlap Farley, BSN, MS, Retired Certificated School Nurse for Vancouver School District 37, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing services.
For Patricia Dunlap Farley, becoming a nurse was an easy decision. Her mother, a nurse who graduated in 1933 from St. Joseph's Hospital in Lewistown, Montana, encouraged Patricia to begin training early in her career, which she did working at the same hospital from which her mother graduated. She went on to serve as a school nurse for 25 years, during which time she developed a special knack for working with students diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. Now retired for more than 10 years, she continues to fuel her passion for helping others as a parish nurse and part-time worker at the Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Center. Her belief that nursing is not just a job, but an exciting and enhancing journey, has guided this spirited individual through a 51-year career, one that continues to offer her joy and fulfillment.
During her tenure as a school nurse for Vancouver School District 37, Ms. Dunlap Farley organized healthcare programs, assessed physically disabled and emotionally disturbed children for special education, and taught specific courses geared toward parents by employing strategies constructed by the Kaiser Permanente healthcare organization. A former president of the School Nurse Organization of Washington, she earned the School Nurse of the Year award from the state of Washington in 1981 for her outstanding participation in numerous initiatives to improve the care provided to students. This past year, she was chosen to be featured in "Cambridge Publishing's Top 101 Industry Experts." Her unwavering interest in current healthcare issues and maintaining the quality of the nursing profession is what drives her to continue lending a helping hand wherever she can.
Ms. Dunlap Farley received a master of science in health education from Portland State University plus 90 graduate credits in continuing education. She also earned her parish nurse license from the University of Portland and a bachelor of science in nursing from Montana State University in Bozeman. Throughout her career, she authored many articles on attention deficit disorders for newspapers and read nursing-related publications in order to remain at the forefront of her industry. During an interview with Cambridge Publishing, she noted "By the time I was involved deeply with attention deficit disorders in schools, the pediatricians listened to me, I listened to them and it was like an exchange of equals. They knew that I could observe and take care of the children." It is this high level of competency and dedication that has proven Ms. Dunlap Farley to be a truly inspirational and well-respected figure in her field. Now, her daughter, a graduate of the University of Washington has pursued the same calling, working at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, Washington.
