Marilyn A. Lunger recognized for 50 years of steadfast service in nursing
DANVILLE, PA, May 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marilyn A. Lunger, Registered Nurse and Relief Supervisor for Grandview Health Home, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in quality assurance in nursing.
Marilyn A. Lunger, RN is a nursing professional whose extensive knowledge of the healthcare industry, combined with her astute learning abilities, compassionate nature and patience, distinguish her from her peers. She has nearly five decades of professional experience and most recently served with excellence as a quality assurance nurse at Bloomsburg Hospital. In 2007, just prior to her retirement, the Pennsylvania-based hospital, which has served Bloomsburg and surrounding communities since 1905, honored her with the Nurse of the Year Award. Since stepping down from her full-time post at Bloomsburg Hospital, she had worked as a relief supervisor at Grandview Health Home. "You need to recognize your limitations," she states, yet Ms. Lunger firmly believes that she must go where she is needed.
When asked about her upbringing and her reasons for entering the healthcare industry, Ms. Lunger recalls how her mother had a phobia of doctors and hospitals; she couldn't quite comprehend why. Her two sisters were great nurses whom she admired greatly. So she took after them and yearned to emulate them - and that is how her career in nursing was born. "I had a strong desire to dispel the notions held by my mother and spread a positive message about doctors and hospitals," she remembers, "which led me to first work as an aide, and then to progress into nursing." Ms. Lunger received her registered nurse accreditation from The University of Pennsylvania and holds critical care registered nurse certification. Her attention to detail and commitment to high quality care resonated with supervisors, as she was first promoted to staff development coordinator and then to quality assurance manager.
As a quality assurance nursing professional, she worked in the critical care unit and was responsible for the care of medical-surgical patients and staff development coordination. In her dealings with staff and patients, she has learned at least one major golden rule: you can never have enough patience, which is everything. As her current position is a little more flexible, she has been spending a lot more time doing what she enjoys most - reading and spending time with her grandchildren. In 2009, Ms. Lunger was chosen to be featured in "Cambridge Publishing's Top 101 Industry Experts," a publication highlighting the personal and professional accomplishments of its most esteemed members.
