Thomas Lecakis Receives Professional Networking Community's Highest Honor
Thomas Lecakis Named Perianesthesia Nursing Professional of the Year

/Hospitals News Articles/ -- ROCKLAND, ME, September 13, Thomas Lecakis, Staff Nurse and Perianesthesia Nurse Educator for Penobscot Bay Medical Center, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Perianesthesia Nursing. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.

A veteran nurse and nurse educator, Thomas Lecakis has an impressive 36 years of experience in the field of patient care. He has devoted the last two decades of his career to Penobscot Bay Medical Center. In the complementary capacities of staff nurse and perianesthesia nurse educator, Mr. Lecakis is entrusted with directing care for patients recovering from anesthesia in the post-operative recovery room, and assisting and training nursing staff. He cites a lifelong interest in the sciences and the inspiration of his mother, a nurse, as the two driving forces behind his career in healthcare. He attributes his success to his passion for his profession.

Educated in the United Kingdom, Mr. Lecakis earned his master's degree in nursing in 2005 from London's Chelsea University. He became a certified perianesthesia nurse through the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses and currently sits on the board of directors of the Maine Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, which he previously served as president. He also serves on the Clinical Practice Committee of the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses.
