GASTONIA, NC, November 2, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. William Barrett, Surgeon for CaroMont Surgical Associates at Caramont Health, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in acute care.

Dr. Barrett has been practicing medicine since 1994, when he attained an MD from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He completed a residency and internship in general surgery at The George Washington University Medical Center and then received a fellowship in endolaparoscopic and endoscopic surgery through the Washington Institute of Surgical Endoscopy. Now a surgeon for CaroMont Surgical Associates at Caramont Health, he specializes in the mechanical aspects of general surgery. As one of five surgeons in the facility's new trauma program, he oversees acute care and general surgery.

Dedicated to innovation, Dr. Barrett has worked with Pall Corporation on surgical product development for the last 12 years. In the future, he will continue performing surgeries and consultations, in addition to working with policymakers and companies to provide insight into the state of modern health care, especially with regard to economics. In recognition of his work, Dr. Barrett was recently named a VIP of the Year by Cambridge Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional goals. Dr. Barrett, who has published several articles, attributes his success to his excellent people skills and ability to undertand the inner workings of hospitals and current trends in health care.

Prompted to enter the health care field by the intrigue of the art of surgery, Dr. Barrett completed a bachelor's degree at Rice University. He is a member of the American Society of General Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. Furthermore, Dr. Barrett volunteers for Mercy Ships in Africa and medical missions in India, and South and Central America.
