Antonia R. Sacchetti, MD, Honored for Longevity in Community-Based Health Care
Dr. Antonia Sacchetti devoted 47 years to providing care for underserved populations

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Antonia R. Sacchetti, Retired Medical Director of Mission Neighborhood Health Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in community-based health care.

A 47-year veteran of the medical profession, Dr. Sacchetti enjoyed a long and fulfilling career. She devoted all but nine years of it to Mission Neighborhood Health Center, where she held the position of medical director. Entrusted with overseeing clinical operations, she was greatly respected for her expertise in pediatrics, quality control, preventive care management, and acute and chronic care for all life cycles. Prior to joining the community health center, which she also briefly served as a staff pediatrician, Dr. Sacchetti was a pediatrician in private practice and a physician at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Richmond, Calif., and Letterman Hospital.

Dr. Sacchetti discovered Mission Neighborhood Health Center during her pediatric residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Eager to provide quality health care to the uninsured and underinsured, she aligned herself with the center in the 1970s and today considers herself blessed to have had the opportunity over the years to collaborate with some of the most talented and innovative professionals in the health care industry. Dr. Sacchetti also did her part in ensuring the continued growth of her beloved profession by mentoring physicians and other dedicated employees to become successful leaders in their fields.

In addition to her residency at the University of California, which she fulfilled in 1969, Dr. Sacchetti completed training at Moffitt Hospital and East Bay Children's Hospital and a rotating internship at St. Luke's Hospital. She obtained an MD in 1964 from the University of Michigan Medical School. Originally set on a career as an economist, Dr. Sacchetti earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1957 from the University of Michigan, from which she graduated summa cum laude, and attended the Fordham Graduate School of Economics and the University of Michigan Rackham Graduate School of Economics.

Dr. Sacchetti is a founding member of Western Clinicians Network, and sat on the quality improvement and physicians advisory committees of the National Association of Community Health Centers, Inc. Her additional affiliations include Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, San Francisco Medical Society, San Francisco Health Plan, California Primary Care Association, California Medical Association, and American Medical Association. She has been honored with a Community Physician Award by Kaiser Permanente.
