Musaberk Goksel, MD, Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who
Dr. Musaberk Goksel is a firm believer in cancer prevention
WARSAW, IN, July 6, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Musaberk Goksel, Attending Physician at Kosciusko Community Hospital, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in cancer care.
With a special interest in breast cancer and end-of-life care, Dr. Goksel is distinguished by his belief in cancer prevention and the possibility of a cure. He marks his fifth year as a physician at Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he serves as director of the KCH's Cancer Care Center, and treats patients for all types of cancer and blood disorders.
Dr. Goksel received an MD in 1989 from Ankara University in Turkey. Prior to joining KCH, Dr. Goksel was a fellow of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Vermont, a stint that lasted from 2003 to 2006. He and his wife Iklim who earned her Ph.D in English at University of Illinois at Chicago, immigrated from Turkey to America in 1996. Being declared as the Doctor of the Year for 2010 by Kosciusko Community Hospital, Dr Goksel states that Iklim's support remains an integral part of his success, and he considers her as the pillar of his life.
After a year of research on Apoptosis at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Dr. Goksel attended a pathology residency program for two years at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, where he gained a broad knowledge base on the fundamantals of cancer biology, and morphology and its molecular offshoots. This background eventually sparked an interest in turning cancer discoveries into treatments and he decided to pursue his career in medical oncology and hematology. He completed a residency in internal medicine, a prerequisite for oncology training, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Chicago where he was declared Resident of the Year in 2002 and Humanitarian of the Year in 2003.
His professional affiliations include the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. In addition Dr. Goksel serves as the cancer liaison physician to the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for Kosciusko Community Hospital. He is also an active contributor to Rotary International and various community organizations. As he moves forward, he plans to further develop the Cancer Care Center and acquire more experience in treating breast cancer.
