KaKarala J. Rao, MD, Celebrated by Cambridge Who's Who for 30 Years of Excellence in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology
Now retired, Dr. KaKarala Rao spent more than three decades practicing in the area of endocrinology

NAPLES, FL, September 01, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- KaKarala Rao, MD, FACP, FACE, Retired Physician, formerly of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in internal medicine and endocrinology.

For more than three decades, Dr. Rao exhibited an expertise in endocrinology for the Department of Veteran's Affairs. A doctor of internal medicine, he served in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Air Force Reserves and U.S. Air National Guard, where he refined his skills and developed the discipline needed to stand out from others in his field. After being on active duty during the Persian Gulf War and acting as a senior flight surgeon during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Dr. Rao knew he wanted to remain involved with veteran's affairs after he completed his tenure. He retired from the military as a lieutenant colonel in 1995 and continued in his medical work until his professional retirement in 2004.

Dr. Rao holds his education in very high regard as the foundation of his success. He earned an MD from Guntur Medical College in 1969 and was a resident at the VA Medical Center and Methodist Hospital, both located in Brooklyn, New York. He also completed a fellowship in endocrinology at the Upstate VA Medical Center. A lifelong scholar, Dr. Rao earned two Bachelor of Science degrees and a master's degree in business before attending medical school in India. As recently as 1992, he obtained yet another degree — a Master of Science in community health from the School of Medicine at the University of Kansas. Toward the end of his active career, he gained certification as a medical and dental acupuncturist and was also certified by the American Board of Disability Analysts and the American Board of Hospital Physicians. Dr. Rao also earned combined credentials in ayurvedic and western medicine from the Government College of Integrated Medicine in India. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a fellow and charter member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

A published researcher in the field of endocrinology, Dr. Rao attributes his success to the support and teachings of his father, Satyanarayana Kakarala, who was a well-respected and successful lawyer in his home country of India. Dr. Rao's many honors include being selected for inclusion in CARE International Who's Who of Professionals, receiving an outstanding achievement award from the U.S. Air Force for his services during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and being named an employee of the month at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. To remain current with industry trends, Dr. Rao is a life member of the American Medical Association, the Aerospace Medical Association, the Association of Physicians of India, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the Alliance of Air National Guard Flight Surgeons, the National Association of Veterans Affairs Physicians and Dentists, the Ohio National Guard Association, the National Guard Association of the United States, the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, and the VFW.
